The history display in the back of the store says that Nob Hill was founded in 1961, while the sign by the checkouts says "Est 1934". Huh? I'm guessing the older date is referring to Raley's as a whole, though Wikipedia says (with a citation) that Raley's was founded in 1935. So I don't know what to believe!
John and Mike Bonfante opened their first grocery store in San Martine 1934, but it wasn't until 1961 that Mike Bonfante opened a store in Morgan Hill and officially named it Nob Hill Foods. The chain started in 1934, but the name wasn't officially used until 1961.
