At least there was an opening into the future warehouse space, though there wasn't much of interest to be seen. In addition to health and beauty, another major category in the clearance area was ethnic/cultural foods -- definitely feels like Safeway wasn't sending a great message to the highly diverse and multicultural population of this area, singling out their store for a major downsizing and clearing out a lot of the products that target communities other than generic white people. On the other hand, I suspect Safeway was getting massively out-competed by the huge number of specialty grocery stores that are present in this part of the city, and which I imagine do a much better job of serving those communities than a major corporation like Safeway ever would.
