Up at the front of the frozen aisle, we run into the side of the bakery, of all things. This is probably the strangest part of this store's layout to me -- until now, it's seemed pretty much like a classic "grand aisle" store (apart from the Safeway-style pharmacy), except the bakery is all the way over here, awkwardly stuck in a corner all the way on the other side of the store from the grand aisle. I have no idea whether this department placement is original to Max Foods or if it was tacked on by Safeway at some point (with Max Foods being a discount/warehouse brand, perhaps they wouldn't have had a full compliment of service departments like Safeway does), but it doesn't seem to make much sense either way.
