The bakery service area looks even stranger from this angle, open on three sides and jutting out into the salesfloor with a soffit that's just barely big enough to hold the department sign. I just can't see Safeway building something like this, but you never know. Either way, I'm pretty confident that it wasn't the Lifestyle remodel that added this, as it seems like this would have been a perfect place for the showy gas ovens they used in the Lifestyle v2 era!
