Ocean Fare

There is one place in this store that shows its 1970s roots, and that's the cramped back actionway, home to the meat department. This is clearly nowhere near as cramped as in an unmodified vintage Safeway, but it's quite different from a typical modern location! There's no meat alcove (and therefore no coffin cases), and while the department as a whole is in its usual location (the back corner behind produce), the service counter is in the middle closer to where the pharmacy would normally be, rather than in or near the corner. Despite the cramped placement, the meat and seafood section has fairly elaborate decor, and I quite like the hanging oval signs in the background, with their distinct 50s/60s flair; they remind me a bit of some of the signs the earlier, fancier Quality Built Acmes got. (I hadn't seen those pictures in a while due to Acme Style going down and the archives not being super easy to navigate -- I had forgotten just how different that prototype store was from the normal Quality Built/Legacy package I'm used to!)
