Another oddity about this store that you might have glossed right over is visible here, specifically the aisle markers. They're completely standard Lifestyle v2, but that's the strange part: Safeway had already been using the type that eventually became part of Lifestyle v3 for several years, starting with the Lifestyle v2.1 package circa 2010. My first thought was that perhaps they had brought them over from the previous store next door, but a 70s Safeway wouldn't have nearly enough aisle markers to fill a Grocery Palace Albertsons! Still, it's possible that these were reused from some of the many stores that had closed in the years leading up to the merger -- that's the only explanation that I can think of for why these are here, at least.
Sadly, Safeway wasn't content doing a cheap remodel on the bakery, and instead decided to fully blandify it. Nothing obvious remains from the elaborate Grocery Palace bakery setup; instead, there's just a flat wall with a small service counter.
