This store, in the far southeastern part of the interminable Los Angeles suburbs, was built in 1989 and had its most recent remodel in 2020 or 2021. I'm guessing the facade was redone at some point too, since it doesn't look particularly 80s to me, but it sure is a highly Southern California look!
I can see this facade being original as it has some similarities with the 1980 Safeway, now Food Town, near me and also with stores such as Children's Palace which were opening around here in the late 1980s. Certainly the Spanish type theme is a lot like what Safeway was doing in the 1970s and very early 1980s. Here is how the local Safeway looks: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zt6eQeMNJ2tkBvqR9
ReplyDeleteAlthough I suppose this look is expected in Southern California, it is interesting to see this and then also the Spanish-themed exterior of The Year of Kroger store I posted last week. I guess the theme of the month is Spanish-themed Krogers! Hopefully this Ralphs is somewhat nice like TYOK Kroger for this month.
Maybe, but I feel like most 80s Spanish-style buildings I've seen have been a much plainer version of the style, like your Food Town. But I also haven't spent all that much time in areas where it's a common architectural style, like Texas or Southern California!
