First things first, I have to give Safeway credit for acknowledging that this neighborhood has a name, and even throwing in a little bit of local flair here! There's more of that to come, but still, none of it is anywhere near as cool as what the old store had, and I was really hoping that sign would make an appearance in the new place. The less said about the space above the little enclosed office, the better -- that rat's nest of plumbing and conduits and who knows what else looks absolutely terrible, and that's especially frustrating to see since it would have been super easy for Safeway to hide most of that by simply extending the office walls all the way to the ceiling. So yeah, it's not just the ceiling here that has an overabundance of ugly utilities -- it's basically the whole perimeter of the store too, which is part of what makes this store look so much worse than Safeway's other mixed-use, open-ceiling stores, in my opinion.
