Pharmacy in the front

Compared to the Safeways I'm used to, this store's layout is all kinds of weird... though I suppose the pharmacy placement is about the least weird part of it, since it is similar to what many other chains do. You can see more of the dead space over here -- I remember this store feeling very empty in person, not just because of all the unused floor space but also because there were very few shoppers. I suspect that the handful of stores converted from Pavilions to Vons circa 2020 were ones that were already doing fairly poorly, and the conversion doesn't seem to have had much effect, with at least one of the other converted stores having closed already.

  1. I've heard a rumor that the upscale Vons stores from the late-1980's (possibly even the upscale Pavilions stores) helped inspire Publix's flagship store design during the 1990's. That being said, this particular store's layout doesn't seem to fit that bill and is just weird!
