Beverage corner

Those new, taller cases allowed the lunch meat section to move in with the main meat department, leaving a row of cases that Safeway needed to find a use for... and strangely, they chose to put various refrigerated, non-alcoholic beverages here, something that only a few Safeways (mostly newer-build ones) have at all, apart from whatever's at the checkouts and maybe a small section in the beer aisle. Seems like a bit of an odd choice! I think this may be the largest refrigerated beverage section I've ever seen in a Safeway (locally, at least), and in such a low-volume store.

  1. Wow, this is pretty strange for a Safeway. I've seen large displays of single-serve soft drinks before at Kroger, but usually those are either in the middle of the store near the alcoholic drinks or they are in freestanding fridges near the deli or checkouts. I can't say it is common to see this on a wall cooler! This looks more like something from a C-store.

It is also a bit odd to see Pepsi products get more shelf space than Coca-Cola products. Here in Texas, Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper would get priority over Pepsi, but certainly Pepsi would be available. Perhaps Pepsi is more popular in the NW than here in Texas. I know Pepsi is quite popular in the Northeast.

    1. Yeah, that's for sure! Some of the Safeways built circa 2010, with the deli on an island, had something similar to this on the back of that island, but in an aisle rather than out in the open, and nowhere near as big.

Honestly, I've never paid much (if any) attention to which soda brand is more popular around here! That's just not something that's on my radar.
