Closing the loop, here's a view of the new front-end produce department, where there used to be a row of checkouts instead. (This wasn't entirely home to checkouts, but they probably started roughly where the refrigerated cases end on the right.) The front wall is bare metal panels (hopefully there's some insulation between the ones visible here and the ones on the outside, but it's possible that there isn't considering how old this part of the store is... either way, it adds to the "shed" aesthetic that Anonymous in Houston has mentioned about this grocery department), painted yellow, which at first struck me as unusual for the produce department but I suspect I only think that because Fred Meyers almost never have the produce department against a wall.
