Here's the other side of the bakery, home to the (infamous, for reasons I don't entirely understand) cupcake sign. Sadly, despite this being a fairly recent remodel, the bakery still has the original grey color scheme rather than the new blue color -- though for some reason, there's a completely isolated bit of blue decor off to the right that looks like it belongs in the dairy section, which is on the complete opposite side of the store.
Oh no, the cupcake of doom! Actually, in this application, it does not look too bad even if the grey paint is terrible. At the local Fresh & Local Krogertsons, the cupcake is next to the Bakery Shop name and it's on a long, grey wall that makes it look absolutely terrible. It actually looks worse in reality than it does in the photo, but it doesn't look good in the photo either. Link: https://goo.gl/maps/n8rnhdGDhPcwPcE18
ReplyDeleteThe other side of the store is even more hideous looking. Fresh & Local is a huge fail in ex-Albertsons stores like this: https://goo.gl/maps/nbwyiLdvo1fvxnNq9
Here's how the bakery department looked with 2012/Bountiful decor. This was a much, much better look, IMO: https://goo.gl/maps/JptKJ16ARGePsBVk7
Ha, yeah, I'm not a fan of Neighborhood in any application, but it looks particularly bad in larger stores like that!
DeleteHa! I forget how that started, probably l_dawg and I joking about it thinking it's ugly XD Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteAs for that section of dairy blue to the right -- interesting choice of space filler. In my local Kroger where they're remodeling to Remix, they went with a random section of produce green in the back corner between meat and seafood, and lunch meat... very strange. (Green doesn't actually appear in the produce department since produce isn't along a wall, but it does appear in the new floral department they just constructed along the front end. It's a former Albertsons, so the layout is pretty similar to the one in Anonymous's link above. Which, by the way, does look less than perfect, but I think that's primarily the rough strip lighting and the dark stain color on the floor...)
Funny! I've never had a big issue with it, but I do see how it doesn't fit in with the rest of the decor. And that does sound like a strange setup!
DeleteI think Retail Retell is right to say that the flooring and lighting at the Krogertsons does it no favors, but the wall itself is really quite bad looking in person even when just focusing on that. I did find another Houston Fresh & Local Krogertsons with a similar layout, but one which has more flared walls in that part of the store. It actually looks more like what's at the Fred Meyer that NW Retail posted above. This looks better, but the store also has better flooring so I don't know how much that helps: https://goo.gl/maps/GAEV39a1BjZRDVj28
DeleteThat Krogertsons also has the Fresh Artisan Breads sign: https://goo.gl/maps/GGKRNev8mTPhuWJF6
