Astroturf

Remember how I said I didn't like the grass-photo background on the garden center sign? Yeah, the whole floral department is papered in that same stuff. Yikes. And that orange trim on the shelving makes it look even uglier. At least the purple "blooms" sign is nice, though it seems rather small. It is interesting how it's color coordinated with the old hanging sign!

  1. Oh, wow, that's really bad! That reminds me of the Kmarts that had the odd patchy coverings over the photos of people using Walkmen and VHS camcorders in the electronics department, lol. Forget Poetry in Bloom, this is Cheapness in Bloom!

Here's those Kmart electronics departments if you don't remember these photos: https://flic.kr/p/YA4oTx

On a happier decor note, check out this Fiesta that is in an old Greenhouse Kroger on the east side of Houston. That decor is not actually Fiesta's, but that of a rather a short-lived grocer named Bravo Rancho. Fiesta decided to reuse that decor. Who could blame them, it looks great even if the tile scar is pretty bad! https://goo.gl/maps/K1tZpoLNDmamheoZ8

I hope your vacation went well. I see that you visited some Fred Meyers. Hopefully those look better than this Artisan one!

    1. Ha, yeah, about as far as you can get from a Lifestyle Safeway floral department! 🙂

Wow, that is a cool decor! I love the ship above what I'm guessing is the seafood department.

Honestly, I think you're going to have problems with at least one of the three I visited. One has the worst concrete floor I've ever seen, while another has one of the worst vinyl floors!

    2. Oh dear, Kroger is bringing us not only the worst concrete floors, but also the worst vinyl floors as well? Based on your descriptions and some recent Retail Retell Flickr posts, I think Kroger is going full Kmart on us, lol. I wonder if we can get a #BigKroger movement going to kind of shame some of Kroger's recent moves as being Kmart-esque, but I guess I'll have to see your photos first before I judge them too harshly.

Yep, it appears that ship is for the seafood department at that Bravo Rancho/Fiesta. It's really amazing what Bravo Rancho was able to do to liven up that old Greenhouse Kroger. I'm sure the shoppers really appreciate the interesting decor! At least one Google review mentioned how the shopper liked seeing the decor at that location.

    3. Ha, some of the incredibly half-hearted remodels Fred Meyer has done recently are certainly more reminiscent of a low-end discount store! I'd like to get the Fred Meyer sets in question going fairly soon, but at the same time, I don't want to get too Fred Meyer-heavy on here...

  2. This is very strange... in the Oxford store, they have the purple BLOOMS text and orange stripe, but that's it -- the walls are blank otherwise. Here, those flower cutouts on the right wall look like they might be intentional as part of this décor, but I'm wondering if the AstroTurf wallpaper is just a divisional addition or something, because it clearly does not seem to go very well with the rest of the décor as it was designed.

    1. Interesting! I feel like it would be rather bland without any real wall decor, but what they did here isn't good. (Plus, blank white walls would look right at home in Artisan!)
