Another of the early changes in the remodel was the addition of their "Drive Up & Go" service, which is basically a knockoff of Kroger's Clicklist or Walmart's Pickup that (at least in this store) seems to be much less successful than those two. To accommodate that, the old cafe area in the front of the store was walled off to become the new staging area (which was completely dead both times I visited, unlike the Fred Meyer or QFC versions that always seem busy). Thankfully, the distinctive, mysterious cafe art was left in place despite the conversion!
The other part of the title refers to the sign at the bottom of the picture. It felt quite strange seeing the Safeway, Albertsons, and Carrs-Safeway logos together like that -- Carrs, of course, is an Alaska-only chain, while Albertsons has no stores in Alaska (and I'm not sure they ever did). Somehow, I didn't realize until this that the Alaska stores are run by the Seattle division -- I guess that makes sense, but I hadn't ever put it together in my mind. That should be good for the Alaska stores, since the Seattle division seems to be about the only one that has its act together!

Sweet! Glad they remain :)
