The widened area with angled skylights matches the four main corridors of the mall, but this one is much more prominent due to the lack of fake skylights surrounding it. This makes me lean towards thinking that this was always a mall corridor and just got redesigned at some point, unlike the rest of the mall. It's too bad that there seems to be very little documentation of the history of this place.
