When I was originally researching this place (specifically, the larger redevelopment project that included MyZeil and the surrounding hotel and office buildings), I found mentions that the development included a reconstructed historic palace, the Palais Thurn und Taxis (on the right). I didn't pay much attention to that at the time, since a lot of historic buildings in Europe's major cities were damaged during the World Wars and had to be rebuilt afterwards, but it turns out this one is a bit different -- the original palace was completely destroyed in the wars and replaced with modern buildings, only for those to be torn down in the 2010s and the palace completely rebuilt from scratch! If I had realized that at the time, I would have paid more attention to see if there were any obvious tells. (Apparently the building isn't a complete match to the original palace, but I'm not sure how much the interior looks like the original -- the exterior certainly looks like a historic building, albeit a surprisingly clean and well-maintained one!)
That's it for this set, which feels like it's been quite long (between being at the long end of my "short" sets and having a bunch of disruptions in the middle). Maybe that's just because it's a mall, though -- no matter how cool a mall is, I tend to get bored with writing about it partway through the set. Anyway, time for something different tomorrow!
