I was expecting 1:30 to be past the lunch rush, but this place was still packed! Canadians really do love their food courts... I've never seen an American mall food court be anywhere near this busy, yet this isn't anything out of the ordinary for Canada. I'm not really sure why -- their food courts seem to be full of mediocre chain restaurants, just like American ones used to be before they started failing (these days, you're probably more likely to find local restaurants in American malls than Canadian ones!).

Huh, at least pre-Covid, the Eastern Canadian malls had all kinds of ethnic food options which are rarely seen in American malls, like Indian food, Indonesian food, and so forth. I can't really say if they were chain operations, but the big Eastern Canadian malls have absolutely huge food courts. Of course, most of the ones I went to were in downtown areas, so they also benefited from large lunch rushes from the offices. Maybe that's not so much the case these days.
ReplyDeleteOh, and this lunch crowd seems tame compared to what I saw in Eastern Canada! Even the malls in Alberta had very busy food courts (again, pre-Covid, though just barely).
