This store has an actual produce service counter, which is a rare sight these days, though it seems to focus on fresh juice rather than cut fruit. I don't think I've ever seen another grocery store (especially a mainstream one) have such an emphasis on fresh juice! I wonder if this is a common thing in other Sobey's stores, or something special they were trying out here. (It certainly feels like the sort of thing that chains like to put in brand-new stores and then cut after a few years, like I was just talking about in that Alaska Junction QFC set.)

Juice bars were popular things at fancier supermarkets in the US in the 1980s and 1990s, but it seemed to die out after a pretty short period of time. I'm surprised this Sobeysway still has one in a newer store, but maybe these things are more popular in Canada. I'm not sure why that would be the case though!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize the juice bar fad extended to grocery stores too, but I suppose that's not too surprising!
