I had originally assumed the jail yard-like structure on the low roof over Walmart's entrance had been added by them to serve as a garden center; however, there's no obvious way to access that space from inside Walmart's current salesfloor, and looking through old Street View images shows no signs of Walmart ever using it as such. So I decided to look through historic photos, and found these two that seemingly show it being original to Broadway. I'm not sure what they would have used it for (a strangely boring outdoor dining terrace maybe?), but it really looks like Walmart made hardly any changes to this building when they moved in!
