The closest thing International Village has to an anchor tenant is the Cineplex Odeon theater on the top floor. Originally, this was known as Tinseltown, and had a lot more neon to match the rest of the mall (at least on the exterior, as Henderson Development's website still shows). The prominent Tinseltown branding on the exterior apparently led locals to refer to the whole mall by that name, even long after the theater rebranded. I haven't been able to find any good pictures of the original Tinseltown interior, but the purple neon Box Office sign is still there. Off to the right are the semi-open, but not particularly nice looking, elevators -- it would be so much cooler if they went with those half-round elevators that were popular in the 80s.
I'm not sure if Tinseltowns are common in your area, but they are alive and well here in Houston as a brand of Cinemark theaters: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fSPb19vKNKhA1Ujw5
ReplyDeleteI can't say Tinseltowns are common in malls around here. In fact, the opposite is true, Tinseltowns opened in the 1990s and were away from malls unlike a lot of the older, smaller theaters that came before them.
I didn't even know Tinseltown was a theater chain in the US until researching this place! As far as I know, they never had locations around here. I'm not all that into movie theaters, though.
