The store is pretty much just a standard 90s Albertsons on the outside, with a few vaguely California Mission-styled elements tacked on (most notably the wood-roofed cart corrals). Like most of the non-remodeled Albertsons I visited in California, the Sav-On Pharmacy sign had recently been replaced with the Safeway-style sign, and I suspect the main Albertsons sign was refurbished too since it looks a lot more faded in the 2021 Street View images. I'm not sure if the color scheme was meant to fit in with the Mission-style design, but the heavy green on the lower part of the facade just looks odd to me!

Huh, the front of this Albertsons reminds me a bit of the S. Fry Rd. Randalbertsons in Katy (Houston). Of course, at the Randalbertsons, the arch was merely tacked on by Safeway and the western-styled beams were also added by Safeway after they took this location over when Albertsons left town in 2002. Maybe Safeway was stealing ideas from this Albertsons decor package...or vice versa! Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/d3JPDMdi94D13ktv6
ReplyDeleteThat is interesting! I totally would have expected that arch to be left over from Albertsons. Of course, Safeway did use plenty of arches in the Lifestyle v2 era! The outdoor pergolas are a total Lifestyle Safeway thing, so I'm not surprised to see them there.
