The entrance to the store is through this odd low-ceiling area which doesn't really look like any other 90s Albertsons I've ever been to. The whole store seems a bit odd, and while the outside seems to suggest it was built in the Blue & Grey Market era, the inside doesn't have any of the obvious characteristics of those stores. I tried to dig up more information about when this store was built; the local property assessor's data lacks a construction year for this property, but the plat has a strange note dated 1994 and mentioning "Smith Food King". Smith's Food King was apparently the name Smith's used in California, but they sold those stores to Lucky in 1984, so what they were doing on something from 1994 is beyond me. I did find some references to Smith's attempting to reenter the California market in the 90s, but couldn't find anything specific about that, so I really don't know. I do wonder if Albertsons took over this store and redid the facade to look more like their standard stores of this era, or if Smith's was really copying Albertsons' designs, or if the whole Smith's thing is a red herring and this was actually an Albertsons all along, simply predating the 90s interior designs I'm familiar with.
