This store was originally built as a Marina store in the 60s. It must have been quite a popular store early on, as it appears that an addition was already in construction in 1969; it then got another addition and its current facade in the 90s, and its final Lifestyle remodel in 2006. By the 2010s, this was one of the most outdated Safeways in the region, especially considering how busy it always was, and the newly-merged Safeway/Albertsons was clearly interested in getting more out of the very valuable real estate they were sitting on, though as I detailed a few days ago, neighborhood opposition succeeded in delaying the project for several years; this store eventually closed in 2022 for construction on the new store and associated mixed-use development I'm currently posting in the other slot.
Normally I wouldn't post the same series in both slots at the same time, but I wanted to get through this entire series in the 5 weeks I have between my winter break and my next vacation. This is the slow season in my line of work, so I have to take my vacation days while I can!
