The entrance vestibule is basically a square with doors on all four sides -- two to the outside, one to the checkouts, and one to the grand aisle. And here we find the big surprise of this store -- rather than Modern Deluxe (like we saw at the new U District store) or the brand-new "Sincerely" decor, this store is (as far as I know) the first and only Safeway in the northwest to feature the Ultra-Premium package. It would have been really cool if this store had the newest decor, but this is still pretty neat. Unfortunately, the decor is the only premium thing about this store -- it has the same product mix as any full-size Safeway (not even getting Boar's Head deli products) and the same stark concrete floor and white open ceiling you'd expect from a modern grocery store. Still, I've heard my neighbors and people online talking about how much nicer this store looks than any other Safeway around here, a sign that decor packages really do have an impact on the general public's perceptions... though those comments are almost always followed up by a complaint about how expensive this store is.
