From the outside, this is among the most deluxe Safeways I've ever visited. Even the new Upper Queen Anne Safeway, which recently opened after being delayed by years of design review, isn't this fancy! I didn't feel as out-of-place here as I have at some other stores I've visited, though -- while Carmel is a very wealthy town, a lot of the people at this store seemed to be on road trips just like I was. (And now that I've experienced business class flights and airport lounges, I have a whole new idea of what it's like to feel out of place! That's the one downside to that type of travel for someone like me...)
