The service departments are all grouped together behind the produce department -- I guess that's sort of a grand aisle setup. The decor at this store is strictly photos-only, always an interesting choice, and reminds me a lot of the grocery section at Real Canadian Superstore. You've probably also noticed by now how absolutely dead this store is, which is a serious contrast to the new Save-On we just saw -- at the time I remember thinking that this store looked like it was about to close (and I guess I was right in a way, since they were already working on its replacement), but maybe I just visited at a seriously dead time -- it was a Sunday evening, which tends to be a pretty busy time at my local Safeway, but things seem to shut down early in Vancouver.
This store is quite strange with the terrazzo and lots of natural light up front and then what looks like a regular vinyl floor and normal lighting in the bulk of the store. The flooring combination here looks a bit like what we've seen at some Publix stores that AFB and Sing Oil have posted especially with the colors and pattern of the vinyl floor.
ReplyDeleteI really can't tell you how busy the supermarkets here are on Sundays at any time! I rarely go shopping on Sundays. I would guess Sunday nights would be pretty quiet around here just judging by the amount of traffic on the roads relative to other nights. I suppose Google Maps would have some insights on store traffic on various days, but I've never bothered to study those too closely.
Be sure to check out Mike's new post today about the Houston Kroger which had a grand reopening. It seems the decor mystery turned out to be a lot less mysterious than expected. Still, check out those powder blue bakery refrigerated cases and those charts showing bakery department shrink at various inner-city Houston Kroger locations! I'm not sure why those were left out, or were put out in such a prominent fashion anyway, but I guess they are ours to enjoy reading! The store is pretty ugly, just as it always has been since it was rebuilt some years ago, and the new decor doesn't really fix anything! Yeah, this was a very odd store -- I'm glad I wandered in here!
DeleteI tend to shop on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, and my local store is typically pretty busy at that time. Of course, it probably has somewhat different customer patterns than a typical Safeway in a residential area, since it gets a good bit of traffic from people visiting (or working at) Seattle Center events! Since it's just a couple blocks from the arena, it tends to be extra busy leading up to events there.
