Weird sign support thing

All of the signage here is still in place -- you just can't get into the store from this side anymore (and because of how big it is, it's a fairly significant walk around to the front entrance). As a result, this parking lot tends to be empty these days, despite how much of a mess the front lot is. The structure holding the QFC sign back here is very strange -- I can only imagine this made more sense with whatever sign Art's had here, because the QFC sign looks super awkward!

  1. I'm sure most people will first notice the very strange sign here, but that's not actually the first thing that grabbed my attention in this photo! My eyes fixated on that 1994-5 Honda Accord DX! You might wonder why as at one time those were a dime a dozen, but they've become quite rare in modern times (granted, I know this isn't a totally modern photo!). I had a 1996 Accord, which was also a 5th Generation Accord but with slightly revised styling, and I did see one of those in Portland/Gresham, OR last year. Otherwise, it has been a while since I've seen one of those!

While the Accord was very common, the DX trim level models were not, at least not here. You can tell it is a DX by it having black door handles and trim versus color-keyed trim on the higher-end models. The DXs did not have air conditioning standard and so they were a dealer-added option here. By the time that was added, and almost everyone wanted that here in Houston, it was about the same price as getting a LX which had A/C factory installed in addition to other stuff. Maybe in your part of the world, where A/C is perhaps not deemed as much of a necessity, maybe the DXs were more common.

My 1996 was a special 'value package' model Honda made for about a month towards the end of the model year which was based on the DX, but included factory A/C, color-keyed trim, and the cassette stereo from the top of the line EX model. It was certainly a strange mashup, a car with manual locks and windows and the stereo from the top of the line model! I had that car for 12 years so I'm sure you can understand why seeing a similar car stands out to me! I also think Jeff Bezos had one of those 5th Generation Accords when Amazon was first booming, but it is not that I care about that! I just remember the media latching on to the fact that he drove a Honda Accord. Maybe those Accords have a bad reputation in Seattle now because of that, lol.

    1. I had noticed that car, but I had no idea about the whole DX thing! Old Hondas like that aren't super common around here the way old Toyotas or Subarus (or in my neighborhood, Volvos) are.
