Back to the mall itself

The first-floor Sears entrance opens into the original, single-story part of the mall, with its distinctive narrow skylights and slightly-gabled ceiling. I quite like the way this all looks, especially on a bright sunny day with tons of light coming in. Perhaps the most interesting feature that you might not notice is the lack of any visible light fixtures in the gabled corridor sections -- all of the artificial lighting is hidden above the storefronts, pointing up onto the ceiling. That leads to a very clean look that's very different from the architectural/lighting styles I'm used to, in malls or pretty much anywhere. (It's too bad the fire sprinklers aren't concealed too... I'm guessing they were a later retrofit, considering what we saw in the central court.)
