Just past the escalators sit the remains of the fitness and tools departments, looking a bit sad on the stained, worn-out carpeting. At least Sears bothered to move some fitness decor down here -- it's just one photo, but at least that's better than the appliance section in the background.

Seeing a home gym department on carpet is certainly quite strange! In some ways, the dirty carpeting makes this look a bit more authentic, lol.

My local Sears never had a fancy sporting goods department. It was on the back end of the tool department and looked much the same as the tool department. Years ago, it was where the paint department used to sit. That said, there were some Sears in the Houston area, Baybrook Mall comes to mind, which had a really fancy sporting goods department that really made it look like a gym. Well, what we're seeing here certainly doesn't fit that description!

Here is one of Je's photos of the Baybrook Mall Sears sporting goods department. This is from the closing sale in 2017 so it isn't as nice looking as it would have been before the liquidation, but you get the idea.
