And to wrap up part 1 of this set, here's a distant view of the Safeway and Ross buildings, clearly showing the arched facade trying to hide behind Safeway's Lifestyle-era boxy entryway. But don't worry, we're going to be sticking around here, with a short bonus set starting tomorrow before moving into newer photos of the Safeway and its very unusual remodel(s).
I've seen those Safeway delivery trucks before in photos and the logos on them never really made sense to me!
ReplyDeleteTrust me, I looked long and hard for any Subarus in that parking lot and I didn't see a single one! But, yet, I spot a little piece of a late 1980s Toyota Corolla AE82 FX hatchback! It is that red one parked in between the Volvo SUV and the Civic coupe. Sure enough, when I searched for the Corolla AE82 hatchback on Duckduckgo, the first result was for a posting for one for sale in Washington! In this case, it is in Camas so it is just barely Washington, but regardless, the Pacific Northwest is about the only place I'd expect to see a Corolla AE82 hatchback these days, lol. Then again, I can't really explain the lack of a single Subaru! I'm sure that would be rare in a parking lot this big even in Tacoma! Yeah, I've gotten used to it, but I've never understood why they went with that all-lowercase logo for the delivery trucks (and nothing else). It probably dates back to the Lifestyle all-lowercase era, but I can't think of any other place where they've used an all-lowercase wordmark!
DeleteLook at the first picture of the day -- there's a gold Outback on the right side of that. There's also an older white Outback in the road sign picture (though it's a bit hard to see due to the picture quality). You can also see the back of that Outback above the bed of the Toyota pickup in this picture! So Subarus aren't completely missing from this store...
