Heading inside, the cool mid-century department store look goes straight out the window. For the most part, this store is a typical Macy's, but the basement is rather strange, with a rather messy, dark open ceiling and worn-out stained concrete floors. Things will get better as we get further into the store, but this is not a good first impression to say the least. There's also an annoying pandemic-era staple here, a giant hiring sign blocking a significant portion of the view. (Signs like this are still fairly common around here, but nowhere near as ubiquitous as they were circa 2021.)
This may not be a bargain basement (bargains are pretty rare at Macy's!), but it sure looks like one! Ugh, this looks terrible. Everything here is wrong. Concrete floors which are painted terrible colors, plain white walls, and an industrial ceiling. Even the racks look low-rent. I think the average Ross looks a lot better than what we're seeing here!
ReplyDeleteHopefully things improve from here, but I will say it is quite strange to enter over by the Finish Line!
Part of the space is a "bargain basement" (if you can consider Backstage to be that), but it actually looks more like a proper department store than this area does! I'm not sure what the Bon Marche originally intended this part of the store to be, but it really doesn't make sense in its current form.
