Well, that's it for this extremely brief tour. Back in the Dí per Dí days, the second opening along this side of the building (one beyond the one with the louvers) was another entrance to the street-level lobby; that's the one we typically used since at that end of the block is the hotel we always stayed at when visiting Rome. Sadly, it's fading into blurry memories just like Dí per Dí, as the longtime owner (who my parents had made friends with) sold the place just a few months ago, with the new owners being a company that owns quite a few hotels around Rome and which has raised the price quite a bit without making any improvements. As such, I ended up staying at a different hotel a few blocks away this time, which was perfectly fine, but just not the same, if you know what I mean. Anyway, this trip was all about going new places (like Istanbul and Sicily) and trying new things (like business class and trains on ferries) and very much not about reliving old memories, but sometimes you just have to indulge in a bit of nostalgia, and thanks for letting me indulge in that here.
The Eataly set is much longer than this one and will keep going for a while, but next weekend, I'll be back to my regularly-scheduled North American programming!
