It turned out that this would be my only time visiting the third floor, so I hope I did an OK job of documenting it. This certainly isn't a flattering angle with all those gross ceiling tiles on full display!
Huh, this is a bit strange to see. As cheap as Sears got with maintenance towards the end, I can't remember any of our Sears having dirty or stained ceiling tiles in any great quantity like I see here or like what I saw at some local Macy's stores. Granted, our older Sears stores had those plaster ceilings and not ceiling tiles.
I've certainly seen stores with much worse ceilings, but this is one of the worst Sears I've seen! It doesn't seem like there was a water damage issue here (like Kmart was infamous for having) -- I think it's just that no one had cleaned the dust off the ceiling in many years. I believe this is something that got better in the years after this visit (or maybe the problem was just isolated to the third floor).
