While Sears did a lot of work to update the facade, they left some of the original flagstone walls in place along the south side of the store, near the loading docks. Looking back at these pictures, I originally thought a big portion of the ceiling was missing (which wouldn't be entirely surprising for Sears!), but no, it appears that these are vent grates of some sort and are supposed to be that way. It wasn't until more recent visits that things started to obviously fall apart at this store.
