I miss the barn

I can't completely dismiss the possibility that the dairy section was reconfigured at some point since its layout looks pretty different from the typical Grocery Palace store, but the cases definitely look more like 1999 than 2015! Those roll-down curtains are a total Albertsons thing too -- you hardly ever see them at Safeway (at least not super obvious ones like these).

Notice anything interesting up in the ceiling?

I don't remember what Albertsons did when Grocery Palace was new, but my local Grocery Palace Krogertsons has milk where milk is here in this picture (well, not quite, the milk cases are all the way on the edge of the back wall, it appears there is a non-milk case to the right of the milk cases here in the photo), but juices are all the way on the other side of the store behind produce. I know some older Krogers did this, but that it is otherwise unusual for newer Krogers to have juice and milk in separate areas so it is quite confusing! I think the Krogertsons has things like pie crusts and frozen biscuits in that case where the juices are in this photo.

I do recognize the wavy frozen food structure in the ceiling, but with the local Krogertsons and Randalbertsons having drop ceilings, this is mostly a forgotten aspect of the Grocery Palace stores I visit most frequently! I know we have differing opinions on this, but I'd much rather have a drop ceiling hiding all of this!

    1. Yeah, what I'm used to seeing in Grocery Palace stores is the milk case taking up the whole back wall of the dairy alcove, or being in the far corner with the open case on the left. Maybe this is just another odd early prototype thing; it also seems like the dairy department (similar to the butcher block) is something that's rather inconsistent among Grocery Palaces.

I don't recall the Grocery Palace stores I've visited having juice over on the produce side of the store -- I wonder if that's something Kroger decided to do for some reason. Seems more like a Safeway thing to do! I'm sure the exact locations of products in the open dairy cases has changed quite a bit since this store was built -- that tends to be something that stores fiddle with during resets.
