Even Haggen is stuck with the Albertsons ice chests

The frozen aisle is quite bland -- I wish they would have extended the tree pattern along the whole length of the wall, at least!  This scene has a serious Albertsons look to it, largely due to the random products both on top of the cases and running down the middle of the aisles (the latter being something that seemed to be an Albertsons signature back in the day, though maybe that's just because Safeways don't have wide enough aisles); the black cases with LED lighting only further the Albertsons look. If only Albertsons' stores with aisles going both directions had the frozen foods on the sideways aisles!

Oh no, this looks like Publix nEvergreen's Disagreeable Gray, but with a concrete floor! Actually, something here does look a bit different than typical supermarket paint. Is that semi-gloss grey or a shiny satin paint at the very least? It seems unusual for light to reflect off of supermarket walls like that. Perhaps Haggen is using a different sheen than what supermarkets usually use which I assume must be some kind of flat or eggshell finish. I'm not sure what they might use, I suppose I never had a reason to think about that prior to seeing the light bounce off the walls like that!

    1. I honestly quite like the light green wall color! It's definitely better than Publix's plain grey. I'm not sure about the paint finish thing -- that's something I've never really thought about either!

    2. The walls here do have more of a green tint than "Agreeable Gray". I'll have to look back through some construction documents to see what paint finish is specified in a typical Publix; my guess that it is closer to an eggshell.

As for the concrete floors, we'll have one of our first nEvergreen stores with concrete floors by mid-March in the form of a GreenWise Market conversion. Stay tuned . . .

    3. Oh no, is Publix really going to start using bare concrete floors in converted stores? I've always loved their terrazzo or faux-terrazzo flooring!

    4. Well, I suppose that is not a given yet since none of the eight stores have officially converted yet. I just doubt Publix would put in the time to install a faux terrazzo floor or vinyl tiles when they were content with the polished concrete in GreenWise Markets to begin with. I guess we will just have to see.

That being said, I am aware of at least one regular Publix from 2019 that opened with brown concrete floors. I'm just glad that trend didn't catch on!
