Haggen really liked using these plastic cows back in the 2010s, but this is the only time I've ever seen them like this, placed on top of the frozen cases! I always like fun things like this, but it's still pretty strange. In the background, this picture captured a pretty good view of how the mirrored glass on the front end is intended to show what's going on at the checkouts below, though that's always a secondary function to the windows that also give a view down from the security catwalk above.
(The title is a reference to the locally-famous Goats on the Roof store in Coombs on Vancouver Island, somewhere that I have fond memories of from when I was a kid, before it became prohibitively expensive to drive on the ferry to get over there.)
Ha, this looks like a carbon copy of my local Safeway-turned-Food Town except that Food Town has pinatas on top of the frozen cases instead of cows. Then again, maybe Food Town has a cow pinata! Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kr8iEYzEFzXUJZes5
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how similar things are at this Hagway and the Food Townway. The lights position are the same, the columns are the same, and the fire sprinklers are in the same position. These stores were likely as close to carbon copies between the NW and Houston as we can get.
Yeah, that is a very similar store! I think the only big difference is that the security windows don't wrap around the corners here like they do at that store. This store also has a different service department setup, but I suspect Safeway reconfigured this one (and Food Town may well have reconfigured theirs too).
