From afar

I suppose this view shows how Mi Pueblo wanted this store to look, with the original Marina elements barely visible! Even without the Marina portion, this is quite a nice looking store. I feel like I talk about cars a bit too much for someone who isn't really into cars, but it's neat to see that 80s Honda Accord right next to a nearly-brand-new one! (And it's amusing how the vintage one is red while the modern one is boring white.)

  1. That is very interesting to see a 4th generation Honda Accord sedan next to a 10th generation one! That red 4th generation one is either a 1992 or 1993 so not quite 1980s, but it does have the boxy shape typically associated with the 1980s. The 10th generation Accord is not the current generation as the 11th generation recently came out, but it is new enough to be called modern.

I know some people who think the 4th generation Accord was the most handsome car ever made. It may look a bit boring and boxy, but it has almost no wasted lines and over-styled things just for the sake of over-styling something. The windows are large and the car felt very airy inside even though it probably isn't much bigger than that mid-2010s Honda Civic a couple cars up in the parking lot! In some ways, it was the Subaru Forester of sedans with that large greenhouse and excellent visibility. By comparison, that 10th generation Accord is nowhere near as handsome even though the front and rear are styled to look a bit like the 4th generation Accord which has often been used as the benchmark for newer design of Accords (the 6th and 10th generation Accord sedans seem to be modern takes of the 4th generation design which itself is a bit like the 2nd generation Accord sedan). The swoopy greenhouse of the 10th generation Accord makes for a more confined feel and it is harder to get in and out of...probably intentionally to try to steer buyers into dreaded and more expensive SUVs!

I had a 1996 Honda Accord, which was from the 5th generation, but it was mechanically similar to that red 4th generation car. It was a fun car. They are not as bulletproof as some people make those cars out to be, but that red one looks to be in excellent shape for a car that is at least 30 years old now. I hardly see 1990s Honda Accords anymore here (by comparison, XV20 era Toyota Camrys are all over the place here so I think it is fair to say those Camrys were longer lasting), but I did see a near mint 5th generation Accord in Oregon on my trip so that was neat to see a car like what I had years ago in near mint condition!

It is a bit odd to see what is almost an entire row of Hondas in a supermarket parking lot! I guess they are the Subarus of California. The other row is more like what you'd see in Houston, Toyota and Nissan sedans, GM trucks/SUVs, and a Dodge Charger sedan.

Anyway, the full parking lot here probably does show how busy this store is!

    1. Whoops -- I looked up pictures before writing that and thought it matched the earlier examples, but I guess I was wrong! What can I say, I'm really not a car guy.

I'm not sure what's up with all the Hondas here! That's more of a BC thing than a California thing. It's very odd how they all ended up next to one another like this!
