Ale house

The outside of the convenience store is basically a miniature version of the main store, while the inside also looks a lot less bland than what Safeway convenience stores normally have. It does feel a little weird for Safeway to have convenience stores selling basically the same stuff as the main store, and a little more weird that the main offering at the gas station is liquor, but at least it's less insane than the drive-thru liquor stores that quite a few states somehow have.

We have drive-thru liquor stores in Texas, but they aren't very common in Houston. I know of a couple here, but given the size of the city, that isn't really a big number. I know Austin has a lot more of them, but then Austin is a college town. Speaking of which, I think Washington is playing Texas in a college football playoff game to determine who gets to play in the championship game in Houston. I hope Washington wins just so I don't have to see annoying Texas fans in Houston! Go Huskies!

Mike from HHR has said that the handful of Kroger C-stores here in Houston, all of which are former Albertsons Expresses AFAIK, have the same pricing in the C-stores as they do in the main stores. Thus, they are the cheapest C-stores in town. I don't shop at C-stores aside from buying gasoline, and I usually do that at the pump, but I guess there are benefits to shopping at Krogertsons Expresses! I'm not sure if Safeway's C-stores have the same pricing as the stores.

That Safeway Express is about the same age as this Tom Thumb Express in Dallas, but I think it is fair to say the Tom Thumb Express is way neater due to that mural if nothing else! Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/yD8DoZGfMJJDRgCWA

    1. I haven't been inside a Safeway convenience store in a very long time, but I believe their prices are the same as the main store -- seems like it would be rather confusing otherwise! I know they did originally sell items (mainly car-oriented stuff like oil and washer fluid) at the gas station that they didn't carry in the main store, but I have no idea if they still do that.

That is a neat mural, and it's also interesting to see a gas station at a store in a mixed-use building! Around here, Safeway has only built mixed-use stores like that in dense neighborhoods where it wouldn't make sense to have a gas station.

      Go Huskies!
