I wish I had gotten a better picture of this, but this store includes a whole cafe seating area tucked behind the deli, in a glassed-in area that almost looks like it could have once been a secondary entrance (though the topography outside makes that unlikely -- and as a side note, it's hard to imagine a more 2021 sight than in-store seating being turned into a toilet paper display!) The banner above is interesting, featuring the Signature Cafe logo which Sobeys doesn't typically use. Also, this picture shows one feature I wish Washington Safeways had -- a single-serve ice cream bar display!
Interesting, that seating area reminds me a lot of the location of the Galveston Randall's deli/Starbucks seating area which you can see here: https://houstonhistoricretail.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/IMG_6995-jpeg.webp
ReplyDeleteOf course, that similarity is just a coincidence, that Randall's opened around 15 years before Safeway bought Randall's!
Interesting -- that is pretty similar! A lot of Safeways around here have similar glassed-in seating areas next to the deli, but normally there's a second store entrance there too.
