Collingwood Safebikeway

Next to the customer service counter, this store's welcome chalkboard features an old-fashioned bicycle, and I have absolutely no clue why. There isn't anything obvious to connect this neighborhood to bicycling, but then again, there are some neighborhoods of Seattle that are similarly associated with bikes for reasons that I can't explain despite actually living in the city, so there's probably something similar going on here.

Ha, those bicycles are called a penny-farthing. I have a friend in Davis, CA and apparently they are rather obsessed with penny-farthings for some strange, unknown reason. I have no idea if they have these signs at their Safeways, but I'm guessing not, lol. It also seems penny-farthings have some symbolic value in Redmond, WA, but I don't know why. Perhaps using Microsoft products is like trying to use a penny-farthing!

    1. Yeah, I'm aware of that... just didn't feel like going too in-depth in this post. I had no idea penny-farthings were still a popular thing anywhere, and I'm definitely not familiar with them being used in Redmond!
