Tuna, instant potatoes, and beer

Aisle 12 has quite the assortment of products, especially when you include the ice chests sitting on top of the cases! Even ignoring the refrigerated liquor side of the aisle, the other side seems like a random grab bag too -- why is the spaghetti sauce in with the canned meat and instant potatoes, and not with the pasta like it is in pretty much every grocery store I've ever visited?? Sure, I know some people who eat mashed potatoes with spaghetti sauce, but that's hardly a common thing.

Huh, who knew? I would have guessed anyone eating mashed potatoes with spaghetti sauce was spending too much time at the Bottle Shop, but maybe not! Maybe it is just a QFC-inspired meal!

Someone in the retail enthusiast community sent me this. It is a new comedic music video about grocery shopping filmed at Southern California Whole Foods, Vons, and Ralphs. Believe it or not, this was filmed in around May 2023 even though there is Lifestyle v2 and Ralphs Script decor clearly visible here! I figured if anyone would like this, it would be you and your readers...which are hopefully not the mashed potatoes and spaghetti sauce bunch, lol. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGlh-Tac0RI

    1. Ha! The people I was talking about are my parents, who have some rather interesting ideas of the types of foods spaghetti sauce should be eaten on! At least they don't use instant potatoes...

Funny video! Much more watchable with the sound off, though. There aren't many Ralphs left with Script, but there are a good number of California stores (especially Vons) that still have Lifestyle v2. The Ralphs in the very first shot of the video looks more like a Safeway -- that stone veneer on the columns is very similar to what Safeway used in the Lifestyle v2 era!

  2. Canned meat, instant potatoes, and beer all in one aisle - this QFC must be trying to appeal to the one-stop shopping needs of college students! :)

    1. Ha! Maybe the new U District Safeway should have taken inspiration from this place!

  3. I definitely love mashed potatoes, and I definitely love spaghetti sauce -- but I can't say I've ever wanted to try them together!
