Stepping inside

Inside the store, we find a fairly standard Lifestyle v1 installation, though there are some unique touches in this store that we'll see soon enough. What drew me to this place is that it still had its original Lifestyle lighting, at least in the produce and floral area, meaning the floral arbor and produce X-lights were still in place! If you look beyond the Sobeys chalkboards and promotional signage, this is a remarkably original Lifestyle v1 scene, especially when compared to anything you'd find in the US by the 2020s.

The presence of fairly untouched Lifestyle v1 features from the mid-2000s is certainly interesting, but that is not what caught my eye here! That Sobeyway modern version of an 'Ingredients for Life' sign up front is most bizarre! Not only does it merge ideas behind Lifestyle-era slogans with Sincerely-era themes, there is also a mutilated Safeway logo turned into quote marks! I'm left in the dark by this, but maybe that's just because of the original Lifestyle lighting here, lol.

    1. Ha! I think we've discussed these Sobeys promotional signs before, but it is certainly quite interesting to see how the branding in Canada is a direct evolution of Safeway's Ingredients for Life branding, compared to the US where they basically started from scratch after the Albertsons merger.
