Getting closer

I do quite like the way this store looks on the outside! I'm always a fan of big glass facades, and the trapezoidal tower sticking out from the low-slung rest of the building really makes this store stand out. If this place was built by Safeway, it's too bad they didn't build more like this rather than the fairly generic stores that they tended to build in the 90s!

Huh, well, I'm pretty clueless about 1990s Safeway designs since we didn't have any Safeway-built stores here in the 1990s. This doesn't look very Safeway-like to me, but again, that doesn't mean much given Safeway's lack of presence here at that time.

There are so many cars in this parking in this photo and the other one, but not a single Subaru! I guess BC culture is something quite distinct from US Pacific NW culture, lol.

    1. We have plenty of 90s-built Safeways around here, but none of them look quite like this!

Yeah, Subarus don't seem to be nearly as ubiquitous in BC as they are in Washington. They aren't exactly rare either, but it seems like Toyotas and Hondas are the BC equivalent (and honestly, Toyotas are at least as ubiquitous in Washington as Subarus).

Toyotas are very popular here as well. I reckon they are popular just about everywhere in the US and probably Canada as well. Hondas seem more popular in BC, at least based on these photos, than they are in Houston or in the NW. One big difference between BC/US NW and here is that Nissan sedans seem much more popular here in Texas than in the north. Nissan sedans are everywhere around here.

  2. I like the glass trapezoid tower too! It's very distinct.
