I've never noticed a Boar's Head sign specifically mentioning QFC like this before -- now I have to wonder if it's actually an unusual thing, or if I just haven't been paying attention! Anyway, the deli here seems somewhat small by QFC standards, without much of a prepared foods section; it's definitely pretty nice for a fairly small store, though. The ceiling isn't particularly presentable, though, with the mismatched tiles and missing light covers, though maybe it's just that work on the remodel was starting a bit early.

Ha, that deli has more than a Houston Kroger would have, even a big one! Galveston might be the one exception. As for the Boar's Head sign, most Krogers here have that exact same sign, albeit with it saying Kroger instead of QFC. Here's a photo of one (Galveston, actually): https://houstonhistoricretail.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/IMG_7253-jpeg.webp
ReplyDeleteThe decor might be different, but otherwise there's a lot here which looks similar to a Houston Kroger! Hideous looking concrete floors, mismatched ceiling tiles, and lights which are in rough shape! A Houston Kroger will also often add dirty HVAC vents. This store might have had that too if your area needed air conditioning as much as Houston does! So, yeah, this is a pretty standard view of Krogering in Houston and probably in other parts of the country with Krogers, lol.
I should say, the deli itself is pretty normal by QFC standards -- it's the prepared foods section that's lacking. It's interesting that Kroger uses those signs at other brands too -- I wonder if any Fred Meyers have them!
DeleteI'm not surprised -- there are lots of Fred Meyers out here that look basically the same, though at least they normally have high ceilings! QFCs are normally better than this, but I'm not entirely surprised this store isn't one of their nicer ones, considering where it is.
