And to wrap up this set (after having cut a bunch more exterior photos since they were just way too repetitive!), here's a view of the corner sign from across the street. Safeway doesn't have much of a presence on this corner, since the store's floor level is quite a bit below ground. And continuing the Seattle stereotypes, here's another Subaru, right behind a Tesla, another brand that's becoming increasingly common (though nowhere near as much as it is in California)!
Maybe the perspective of the photo is skewing things, but it is interesting to see how much larger that Tesla SUV is than that older Subaru Outback behind it and the white Subaru Impreza Hatchback next to the Outback!
ReplyDeleteI was a bit surprised to see that Teslas were not as common in Portland as I thought they'd be. I see more of them in Houston which is odd given that this is the oil capital of the US! In fact, a new Tesla dealership recently opened near me in an old Gander Mountain location. That's an odd retail reuse, but then again, a BMW dealership recently opened using an old Sears building at the old Westwood Mall in SW Houston, lol.
That said, while I didn't see many Teslas in Portland, I did see more of other brands of EVs like Volvo EVs (surprise, surprise for the NW, eh? lol) and various other European EVs that are very rare here. Also, I wasn't hanging out in Beaverton or Lake Oswego where I suppose maybe people can afford more expensive cars so maybe that has something to do with it.
Related to this Safeway, my Randall's location is having a grand re-opening to celebrate the completion of the Colorful Lifestyle v2 renovation. There isn't anything amazing here, but you can see the ad for the grand re-opening which I will link below. Note page 3, the first page of the Houston-wide Randall's ad, and note the 'Ready Meals Artisan Flatbread Pizzas'. I wonder if this is the same pizzas that this Seattle Safeway is selling as a cooked item? Anyway, enjoy comparing this ad to a Seattle one, lol. Yeah, those Tesla "SUVs" sure are giant, but lack pretty much everything important about a SUV, particularly when it comes to ground clearance! I know, most people who buy SUVs these days hardly ever take them out of the city, let alone off-roading, but still.
DeleteIt's only recently that Teslas have started to become common around here -- I suspect the bias towards older cars around here has a lot to do with it, along with the overall low prevalence of luxury cars. Still, they're quite popular in the techie/new money areas!
And if you think that's weird, the Houston area's going to be getting a Tesla shop in an old Randalls soon!
That is interesting to see. I believe at least some of the "ready meals" stuff is prepared in store, and some of it does seem to be pre-packaged versions of the same stuff sold in the deli, so it wouldn't surprise me if it is the same thing!
