Right at the entrance to the food court is the kids' play area, which was still closed due to COVID at the time. This is a bit unusual for a mall, and reminds me of the playgrounds that were once common in fast food places but which have been gradually disappearing over time. From this angle, it's also clear just how busy the food court is, something I'm not used to seeing in the US!
Mall playgrounds are pretty common in Houston, but I must admit that I don't know if all of them have survived the pandemic. I'd assume they are still open at the successful malls, but I have not been to malls all that often since the pandemic to know for sure. You should see photos of what the Vancouver Mall has! In addition to a playground like this Tacoma one (which is not in the food court), they have a thing where parents can pay to have their kids hang from a rope suspended in air where the kids can do aerobatic moves. It has very much survived the pandemic and seems to be quite busy! To me, having this in the food court seems like a very bad idea as it is just encouraging kids to eat and then do aerobatic moves which will surely lead to them losing their meals, but what do I know!

I've seen that sort of acrobatic thing in a few malls -- it must be some sort of chain/franchise thing. When I was a kid, I probably would have gotten sick doing that even if I hadn't just eaten! 🙃
