This layout basically takes the grand aisle concept and turns it inside out, with an island of service departments surrounded by their respective displays, rather than the typical setup with service departments flanking the grand aisle itself. (Mentioning a service department island makes it sound like a grand aisle setup, but those islands typically have service departments on one side and normal aisles on the other... if that explanation makes any sense). I don't believe this sort of layout was ever used in significant numbers by any chain other than Pavilions, but it doesn't feel too weird to shop in regardless. Oddly, this side of the bakery has a much plainer sign than the typical department signs, just plain lettering installed directly on the wall; I'm pretty sure this sign is still in its original color scheme, which doesn't have much contrast with the new (and ugly) brown wall paint.
