Starry roof

Before I check out, however, there's one more oddity in this store -- this star-shaped clerestory over in the flat-roofed portion of the store. Initially, I was assuming this was part of a later addition, but it appears to actually be original (judging by old aerials). I'm guessing this served a purpose, probably to accentuate some sort of department (rather than generic dry goods shelving as is here today), but I have no clue what that may have been!
