Thank you for shopping [S]

I haven't seen many instances of Safeway using their logo in place of their name in a sentence like this, either now or back in this store's era, so I wonder if this was another experiment in this decor that just never went anywhere. Decor aside, it's not uncommon to see Safeways with locked cases in the front end, but normally they're holding particularly-expensive liquors, not body wash! I'm not sure what the story is here -- if they just ran out of space in the lock-ups by the pharmacy or if these items were so heavily shoplifted that they had to be both secured and in a high-visibility area. Surprisingly, the laundry detergent, which is one of the items I'm used to seeing secured in some way, is instead just sitting loose on top of the cases, with one of the bottles of Gain looking like it's about to fall on some unsuspecting shopper's head.

This area clearly has Lifestyle v1/v2 vibes, but it is also clear that there are some differences here between this decor and real Lifestyle. That 1981 style Safeway logo actually looks pretty good in black and silver! It almost looks like a 2000s-2010s era automotive logo, lol.

There are certainly some oddities in what Safeway decided to lock up and what is out in the open. I suppose maybe they think that the laundry detergent takes up too much room or that if they stack it high enough, it would be obvious if someone tries to steal it as they would have to reach up quite far. I can understand putting those expensive lotions in the cabinet, but body wash? That's a bit strange.

I'm pretty sure Randall's doesn't have that Price Accuracy Guarantee! It is strange how each division has different policies and promotions like the Oregon Safeway Doubl'r double coupons promotion which we certainly don't have with Randall's.

    1. Yeah, it does look quite nice for how unusual it is!

That "price accuracy guarantee" seems to be some sort of California Safeway/Albertsons thing. I think at least some other divisions have similar policies, but don't advertise them as prominently, and I really don't know why they feel the need to make such a big deal about it here anyway -- this seems like something from decades ago when barcodes were new and people weren't sure about them!
